Bushra is a passionate immigration attorney with a diverse background. She handles cases concerning all aspects of U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law. She offers the following passion and experience:
Prior to Bay Area Immigration Counsel, Bushra worked as an associate immigration attorney at a full service immigration law firm. She advised large, mid-size, and small companies in successfully obtaining visas for foreign workers in specialty occupations, including executive and managerial positions as well as assisting them with their various business immigration needs. She advised clients on Labor Condition Application (LCA) compliance and developed strategies for responding to complex Requests for Evidence (RFE’s). While she assisted a wide range of corporate clients, her focus was on advising information technology consulting companies in the Silicon Valley. Additionally, she prepared various non-immigrant and immigrant-based petitions for individual clients and helped immigrants sponsor separated family members. She also represented clients in U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ proceedings, including naturalization and adjustment proceedings.
Bushra served as a volunteer attorney for Bay Area Legal Aid, where she prepared a VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) petition for an immigrant victim of domestic violence, and successfully attained U.S. permanent residence status for her client. She also volunteers at various immigration workshops, including DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and Citizenship workshops, which seek to provide free legal assistance and resources to local Bay Area communities. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California, where she was awarded the Dean’s Merit Scholarship for Ethnic and Cultural Diversity. She also received the State Bar of California Award for Pro Bono Legal Services. During law school, Bushra worked at several immigration law firms where she served the community by providing immigration legal assistance to battered immigrant women, unaccompanied detained children, and victims of torture and persecution.
Bushra graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Ethnic Studies and Political Science. Her degree in Ethnic Studies enabled her to gain a deeper understanding of race, ethnicity, and U.S. immigration. As she studied the histories of minority communities, she understood how race, ethnicity, class, gender, and financial ability have an effect on the experiences of people of color in the U.S. Her schooling of racial and ethnic minority communities has led to a deeper and distinct understanding of how immigration laws are created and applied to diverse immigrant groups.
Bushra’s historical family ties to immigration run deep, as her great-grandfather traveled across the Atlantic Ocean by the ship West Cussita in 1927 to attend Harvard University. He is featured in The , Harvard Crimson (December 20, 1929) and is listed in Ellis Island’s Passenger Search Records (First Name: Hassan, Last Name: Khan). Her family’s meaningful connection to immigration has created a deep sense of ethnic identity and a desire to help others achieve their immigrant dreams.
Her various experiences and diverse background have enabled her to develop relationships and communicate with individuals from various backgrounds. Bushra loves ethnic diversity, giving back to the community, and is dedicated to assisting clients with all their immigration needs.
